The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development is to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 20-22, 2012, which is the 20th anniversary of the landmark 1992 Earth Summit in Rio.
The conference, known as Rio+20, will gather world leaders and thousands of participants from the private sector, NGOs and other groups, to come together to shape the ways of reducing poverty, advancing social equity and ensuring environmental protection around the globe.
The official meetings will focus discussions on two main issues: how to build a green economy to achieve sustainable development and lift people out of poverty, and how to improve international coordination for sustainable development.
