Reconstruction work goes smoothly
Adjust font size:

The weather in southern China is continuing to improve, and reconstruction work after last month's severe snow storms is going smoothly.

In the southwestern province of Yunnan, all damaged power transmission lines will be repaired by the end of this month.

In Yunnan, more than ninety percent of damaged power transmission lines have been repaired. Most closed substations are now operating again. Staff at the provincial grid say power supply will return to normal by the end of this month.

The tap water and irrigation systems in Guizhou Province were badly hit by heavy snow. Local governments and troops are working together to repair damaged equipment.

Insurance companies in the province have been very busy recently, with nearly 40,000 cases relating to the snow disaster reported. Over 100 million yuan has been paid out for compensation claims.

Tan Lun,Director of Guizhou Prov. Insurance Regulatory Comm., said, "We have urged insurance companies to assess the damage and determine compensation as fast as they can."

In Hunan Province, all schools now have access to water and electricity supply has resumed at most schools. More than 1,000 generators are providing back up power. In Binzhou city, the worst-hit area, six schools have postponed the new semester until March.
