Another expert team to be sent to Japan for dumpling case
Adjust font size:

China will soon send another team of experts to Japan for a joint investigation of the "dumpling poisoning" incident, a Foreign Ministry spokesman told a regular press briefing on Thursday.

Qin Gang said that these experts would exchange views with Japanese police on issues related to the investigation and experiments on the dumplings.

China considered it a good opportunity to beef up police contacts and cooperation, Qin said, adding that China hoped to uncover the truth as soon as possible.

After the dumpling poisoning case in January, Chinese and Japanese investigators inspected the manufacturer, Tianyang Food Plant in Hebei Province, but found nothing irregular. They also found no problems related to the purchase of raw materials or the production process.

China sent its first team of experts to Japan in February for joint investigations, but the team wasn't given any samples of the dumplings that poisoned the Japanese consumers or vomit samples from the victims.

After a thorough investigation, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in late February that the dumpling poisoning incident was an individual deliberate case, not a case of food safety resulting from pesticide residue.
