Japan, China to cooperate to restore six-party talks
Adjust font size:

Chinese and Japanese officials agreed in Tokyo Thursday to work jointly to restore the stalled six-party talks.

Visiting Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei, who chaired the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, met with Japanese negotiator Akitaka Saiki, exchanging views on how to get the six-party talks back on track.

They agreed to continue "consider new approaches" and to "cooperate", according to Saiki, without giving more details.

Wu's visit is part of a tour of the other countries involved in the talks -- Russia, the United States, Japan and South Korea.

Prior to his meeting with Saiki, Wu met with his Japanese counterpart Mitoji Yabunaka. Wu will meet with Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone on Friday, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
