Iran: No precondition on major powers' proposal
Adjust font size:

Iran will not accept any precondition for the talks on the recent proposal by major world powers on the nuclear issue, the official IRIB TV quoted Iranian foreign ministry source as saying on Monday.

Mohammad-Ali Hosseini, the spokesman of foreign ministry said that "they are trying to send an envoy to Iran and there are some talks underway concerning it."

Iran will think over the proposal package presented by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council -- the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China -- plus Germany, a group known as the "5+1," he said, stressing that Tehran will not accept any precondition on the package.

Hosseini also pointed out that Iran has not mentioned security guarantee in its own incentive package, whose detail will be announced "in due time."

Iran's package, according to Hosseini, will provide an "appropriate ground for constructive negotiations."

The United States and its Western allies have accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program. Iran has denied the charges and insisted that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

The U.N. Security Council has imposed three sanctions against Tehran's nuclear program since December 2006.

On April 16, officials from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany convened in Shanghai, China, to forge a "5+1" proposal package to restart talks on Iran's nuclear issue.
