Corinthians physical trainer Walmir Cruz said on Wednesday that Ronaldo is in a much better shape than nearly one year ago.
Cruz believes that the soccer player's work ethic will end up giving his opponents a headache in 2010.
"As of today, Ronaldo is in much better shape than he was in February of 2009. He is a huge step ahead of where he was at last year at this time. Despite his preparation, we foresee Ronaldo making his 2010 debut in March," said Cruz.
Corinthians will make their 2010 Libertadores Cup debut at home on February 24. According to Cruz, the chances of Ronaldo playing in the tournament opener are good.
In order to best prepare Ronaldo for the complete 2010 season, the physical trainers and coaching staff have put the superstar on a rigid conditioning regime. The purpose is to get the player back in top shape in order to avoid any sort of re-injury to his left knee.
For now, Ronaldo's debut with Corinthians is expected to take place on March 4 during the match against Itumbiara in the 2010 Brazilian Cup. Little by little, the striker will receive more playing time and return to aid his team in the quest to win back-to-back titles of the Brazilian Cup as well as the Sao Paulo Championship.
The team's head coach, Mano Menezes, would like to see Ronaldo on the field before the team's debut in the Libertadores Cup. However, everything will depend on his preseason workouts, his weight loss and his drive. As to date, all the player's tests have pleased the coaching staff.
