Despite rumors that Spaniard Carlos Colinas will be likely to take over the Brazilian women's national basketball team, the Brazilian Confederation of Basketball (BBC) denied on Wednesday that the team has finalized the choice.
Hortencia, an idol in women's basketball in Brazil and a top official with the BBC, has the final call on selecting the next coach for the national team. The former player confirmed that she has made contact with Colinas, but denied rumors that she decided to hire the foreign coach.
"No one has made any deal with anyone. We still have many names on our list, but there has not been any sort of decision made yet. I still have not meet with Carlos Nunes, the president of the Brazilian Confederation of Basketball, since he is still in the United States. We still need to meet and discuss the best option," said Hortencia, avoiding any sort of deadline in selecting the new coach.
