Owners of bars and nightclubs in the Chinese capital have been busy promoting their venues for party as local soccer fans are gearing up for the month-long FIFA World Cup.
Some bars in Beijing's Houhai are decorating the walls and windows with colorful national flags of World Cup participants. They have also posted the match schedules at prominent places.
China Daily reported Saturday that some bars have rebuilt their courtyards and rooftops for soccer fans to watch games there and root for their favorite teams.
In Sanlitun, birthplace of Beijing's nightspots, owners are expecting the soccer buzz to bring in the crowds.
Terry Fen, a bartender at Cutie Club, one of the most popular nightclubs near the Workers' Stadium, said he expected the soccer frenzy to boost beer sales by over 30 percent.
Xu Xin, a regular visitor to Sanlitun said he expected all the bars would be very crowded. "It's difficult to find a space to stand during some special events like the World Cup." he was quoted as saying.
