Shahar Peer of Israel reached the quarterfinals of the China Open on Wednesday, easing past Serbian qualifier Bojana Jovanovski 6-1, 6-2.
The 18-year-old Jovanovski had enjoyed a solid form in Beijing, upsetting fellow Serb Jelena Jankovic, third seed of the 4.5-million-U.S.-dollar WTA Crown Jewel event, in the second round on Monday.
However, the 93-ranked Jovanovski seemed vulnerable in front of the world No. 18 Peer, only converting one of her six break chances, while Peer broke five out of 10 opportunities.
It was the first time for the two players to encounter on the WTA Tour.
