David Villa has broken Spain's all-time scoring record when he scored his 45th goal for the national team on Tuesday.
Villa converted a penalty in Spain's Euro 2012 qualifier against Scotland in the 44th minute for his 45th international goal. Spain beat Scotland 3-2 in the game.
Villa, who was playing in his 69th international, broke the record he shared with former Real Madrid great Raul Gonzalez.
"He has had a great career up until now and to be able to speak to him as a great striker like Raul is a great thing," Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque said. "He was one of the keys to us winning the World Cup."
