Shanghai will stage the first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition next year that will showcase Chinese skills.
The event, which will be held on March 5 at the Shanghai Grand Stage is backed by the Chinese Wushu Association and Ranik Ultimate Fighting Federation (RUFF). The organizers also gave a sneak preview to the media when two fighters were locked up in a cage to duel each other until one of them surrendered. They were free to use any style - grappling, kicking and striking.
The competition will be of 5 rounds with each round no more than 5 minutes. "We would like to train a super Chinese martial arts fighter - a Yao Ming of Kung Fu," Lin Yanming, one of the founders of the RUFF, said.
