World Cup chief organizer Danny Jordaan may ban the high-pitched vuvuzelas from inside stadiums.
The constant sound of the horn-like instrument has raised complaints from broadcasters and players.
Jordaan, when asked if he would ban vuvuzelas, said: "If there are grounds to do so, yes."
Many players including France captain Patrice Evra have already complained about the vuvuzelas.
"We can't sleep at night because of the vuvuzelas. People start playing them from 6 am," he said.
"We can't hear each other out on the pitch because of them."
Jordaan said he was not a fan of the vuvuzelas himself. "I would prefer singing," he said.
