Struggling Bremen craved out three points at relegation battle thanks to a 3-1 victory over Freiburg whilst Mainz came back twice against Hamburg to oust Bayern from fourth position attributed to a brace by youngster Andre Schuerrle on Sunday.
Bremen striker Sandro Wagner smoothed the way for the victory when he poked the ball home from close distance at the 12th minute. Four minutes into second half, Freiburg levelled the score as striker Papiss Demba Cisse converted a penalty.
Struggling Bremen remained unimpressed and scored another two goals, one by striker Claudio Pizzaro and one by midfielder Marko Marin to seal a victory after seven winless matches. Bremen sit on 14th position with 28 points while Freiburg slipped from 7th to 8th position with 37 points.
Hamburg midfielder Marcell Jansen opened the scoring against Mainz with only 17 minutes into the match. Mainz remained active and aggressive but they failed to overcome Hamburgs well positioned defense within the break.
At the 56th minute, striker Schuerrle nodded home the equalizer to stun Hamburg. Hamburg remained unfazed and netted the 2-1 lead only three minutes later through striker Mladen Petric. It was a short-lived joy for Hamburg as midfielder Gojko Kacar netted an own goal to equalize for Mainz.
Even worse for Hamburg, Schuerrle and midfielder Florian Heller made the 4-2 victory perfect. Mainz climbed from 5th to 4th position with 43 points whereas Hamburg slipped from 6th to 7th position with 37 points.
