Lyon players are celebrating on their flight after an unlikely 7-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb in UEFA Champions League on December 8, 2011. |
A French online gambling watchdog says it is investigating Lyon's 7-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. ARJEL says it expects to announce the results of its probe later.
Lyon said it welcomes ARJEL's "checks" into the "atypical" scoreline.
The lopsided result helped Lyon advance to the last 16 in Europe. That, combined with the apparent ease with which it scored some of its goals, sparked online chatter that the match may have been fixed, although there was no immediate evidence that was the case.
Dinamo midfielder Jerko Leko was sent off in the 28th minute. Lyon failed to score before that and even trailed 0-1 in the first half before its unlikely comeback.
