Marcello Lippi has been considered the most successful foreign coach in Chinese Super League (CSL) history since taking Guangzhou Evergrande to win two major titles in his first year of coaching.

The World Cup-winning coach took over Guangzhou Evergrande in May and led the team to defend their CSL title on Oct. 27, winning the Chinese FA Cup two weeks later.

However, the silver-haired Italian's coaching career will still be on the edge of jeopardy if the team isn't able to make a breakthrough in the Asian arena. The big-spending Evergrande was eliminated in the quarter finals of the AFC champions league this year after losing to Saudi team Al Ittihad.
