Yi Jianlian slams dunk in Guangdong's 105-103 win over Shandong in a CBA game on Feb.15, 2013. |
Thanks to Liu Xiaoyu's layup with 2.9 seconds left, leaders Guangdong snapped Shandong's 15-game winning streak with a 105-103 victory in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.
Liu Xiaoyu, who had been scoreless until he made the game-winning layup, surprisingly became the late-game option for Guangdong in the final seconds. The 23-year-old point guard fought off the double-teams to seal the victory like a superstar.
"For the final shot, I just want to play aggressive, so that at least I can got fouled to get to the free-throw line," said Liu after the match.
Yi Jianlian finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds and Ike Diogu had a game-best 35 points.
Before Friday's game, Guangdong decided to sign former Atlanta Hawks guard Donald Sloan as the new foreign player to replace Terrence Williams, who averaged 17.9 points and 4.1 assists per game.
Shangdong had the opportunities to pull away from Guangdong in the first half, however, the league leaders rallied from double-digit deficits twice with the top-form Yi Jianlian.
Pooh Jeter, who scored 25 points, missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer in the last quarter for Shandong, which had four players in double figures.
Also on Friday night, Beijing Ducks lost to Foshan Long Lions 106-112 without Stephon Marbury. Randolph Morris and Li Gen had 35 and 33 points respectively for the CBA defending champions.
"Our defence was unacceptable tonight, specially from the arc. We dominated the first half but fail to maintain the advantage," Beijing coach Min Lulei said.
Tracy Mcgrady made 23 points as Qingdao Doublestars were beaten 109-127 by Dongguan Marco Polo, who secured a spot in the CBA playoffs after this victory.
