Renato Portaluppi has resigned as manager of Gremio after a disappointing 2024 season, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Monday.
The announcement followed a 3-0 home defeat to Corinthians on the last day of the league season on Sunday, a result that left Gremio just three points above the relegation zone.
"Gremio announces that the contract of Renato Portaluppi will not be renewed next season," read a statement on Gremio's official website.
It added that the 62-year-old had expressed a "desire to leave" in a meeting with club directors earlier in the day.
Renato guided Gremio to 70 wins, 31 draws and 40 losses after taking charge of the club for a fourth time in September 2022.
A former forward who played for the Porto Alegre club in the 1980s and 90s, Renato holds the record for the most games (542) as Gremio's manager.
He also led the club in 2010-11, 2013 and from 2016 to 2021.
