Organized by Michael Eavis, a farmer in a Somerset valley, the Glastonbury Festival has developed into one of the biggest and best-loved music festivals in the world. As a British performing arts festival, it is best known for its contemporary music and all-star lineups, but also for various arts offerings. It aims to encourage and stimulate youth culture from around the world in all its forms, including pop music, dance music, jazz, folk music, fringe theatre, drama, mime, circus, cinema, poetry and all the creative forms of art and design, including painting, sculpture and textile art. The profits made in the running of the event are reinvested in the event and also donated to charity.
