On Jan. 13, 1995, a plane of Intercontinental Airlines from Bogota crashed into a swamp in northern Colombia, minutes before it was due to land at the Caribbean resort of Cartagena. A 9-year-old girl named Erica Delgado was the only survivor from the crash which killed all other 51 passengers aboard. The girl said that her mother had shoved her out of the plane before it burst into flames. She dropped on a mound of seaweed which kept her from drowning.
