Shanghai, one of the most developed cities in China, topped Beijing as the city with highest average monthly salary in autumn, according to a report released by Zhaopin.com, one of China's leading human resource solutions providers.
East China is still in the lead in the salary rankings. However, some developed cities in central China ranked relatively lower than some western Chinese cities such as Chongqing, Chengdu and Kunming, reflecting the fast development of western China.
After fierce competition in summer, the job fighting seems calmer in autumn. The average supply and demand index among the 28 Chinese cities included in the survey stood at 30.7, which means that 30.7 applications were submitted for every job received. This is much lower than the summer figure of 35.2.
In Shanghai, professional services and consultation (such as law and human resources) was ranked the No.1 industry in terms of salary, with an average of 10,211 yuan (US$1668.5) per month, followed by agent services and diversified operations. This shows that some unpopular jobs such as agent services offered considerable salaries.
Experts at Zhaopin.com said that unpopular jobs do not always have low returns, so employees should hold a rational attitude when choosing jobs.
