Ocean University of China topped the Transparency of Higher Education in China ranking, with a score of 88.87, according to the Annual Report on the Transparency of Higher Education in China 2014 released by China Social Sciences Press.
However, the well-known universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University, didn't perform well on information transparency and Peking University only ranked number 62.
The report, the first of its kind by the organization, evaluated the information disclosure condition of 115 key universities across five categories, including their basic condition, entrance examination information, student management information, financial information and the establishment of an information publicity column on their official websites.
The report shows that 82 universities have overall scores of 60, accounting for 71 percent of the total.
In 2014, the Ministry of Education issued new rules that prescribed that universities should promptly and accurately disclose information on more items, including the enrollment of students with special talents, bidding for infrastructure projects and administration of officials going abroad for business purposes.
