Shanghai was rated the most attractive Chinese city for expatriates for the third year in a row, according to the results of a nationwide survey released by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.
The financial hub and metropolis is followed by Beijing and Shenzhen in the ranking of the top ten most attractive Chinese cities for expats in 2014.
The annual ranking, first compiled in 2010, is based on a survey of around 20,000 foreign professionals and experts living and working in China. It evaluates Chinese cities' living environment, health care, public security, job opportunities and potential for self-development, work environment, incentives and public services for foreign professionals, cosmopolitan atmosphere and inclusiveness.
The review panel that approves the ranking includes Nobel Laureates and recipients of the Chinese Government Friendship Award.
