The United Bank of Switzerland (UBS) has released the 16th edition of its Prices and Earnings Study of average working hours and paid vacation days in 71 cities worldwide.
According to the report, working hours have a great impact on people's purchasing power and quality of life, and a high income and a low number of working hours, therefore, indicates a higher quality of life.
If you are a workaholic, Hong Kong could be your best choice, where the average working hours are over 50 per week, with only 17 days of annual leave. However, for those wanting to enjoy more time off should move to Paris, where people work only about 35 hours per week and have 29 days of annual paid leave. Thus, people in Hong Kong work 1,000 hours more than those in Paris every year.
Mumbai ranks the second, with 2,277 working hours per year and 21 days of annual holidays, Mexico City is third.
On average, people spend over 40 hours per week at their workplace, and receive over 4.5 weeks of paid vacation each year.
The numbers were averaged over all professions, and legal holidays were not included.
As a global firm providing financial services, UBS has published the report roughly every three years since 1971, compiling over 68,000 economic data points since the last edition in 2012.
