Editor's note: The Tokyo Olympics concluded on Aug. 8 with Team China coming in second in both the overall medal standing and the gold tally. A total of 431 Chinese athletes, over 67% of whom were first-time Olympians, competed in 225 events and took home 88 medals, including 38 golds, 32 silvers and 18 bronze.
Given the exceptional performances of these first-time Olympians, China News Service released a list of top 10 Chinese rising stars at the Tokyo Games. Here we take a look at their top picks:
# Yang Qian
Chinese young shooter Yang Qian claimed the first gold of the Tokyo Olympics with victory in the women's 10m air rifle on July 24. Born in 2000, Yang is also an undergraduate student at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Three days later on July 27, Yang claimed another gold with her teammate Yang Haoran in the mixed 10m air rifle final. The 21-year-old thus became the first Chinese shooter to bag two golds at one Olympics.
