Shuhe, Yunnan Province
Shuhe, close to Lijiang ancient town, was the first living area of the Naxi people. As the best-preserved market town on the ancient tea trading routes, you can still find the same street stones those trade caravans walked on and the old wooden doors with dark red paint.
The centre of Shuhe is called Square Street. Shops along the four sides of the street have streams running by the house and bridges connecting their room and the main street. The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain provides clear water to the town. Tourists can sit in the bars or restaurants along the streams, and enjoy an afternoon amidst the ancient charms of Shuhe Town.
Tips:
1. The Shuhe ancient town is 4 kilometers from Lijiang, Yunnan Province. Walking along the street to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, you can find direction to Shuhe.
2. Shuhe is famous for its Ji Dou Liang Fen (a kind of jelly-like beans) and Ci Ba (glutinous rice cake). Don't miss these snacks when you are visiting.
3. Souvenirs like tie-dyed cloths or wood carvings are less expensive than in Lijiang. Shuhe also sells some local handicrafts that are rarely seen in other markets.
