Local administration in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) would boost promotion to include Komodo dragon as one of the 28 official finalists in the New 7 Wonders of Nature, Antara news wire reported Monday.

NTT Culture and Tourism Office spokesman Ulbadus Gogi said in NTT on the administration would use information technology equipment to support the promotion of the ancient giant lizards on Komodo Island in Flores district.

According to him, the local government would place the information technology devices at strategic areas such at sea ports, airports, and other crowded public places to facilitate people to give their support to the endangered giant lizard and its lush Indonesian habitat.

"Not only will we call on people to promote the Komodo but also provide them with all possible facilities so that they can vote for the endangered giant lizards on Internet at public places," Ulbadus said.

Ulbadus expressed hope that with the facilities, it would attract as many people as possible to give their supports.

The Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) is a large species of lizard found in the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang in Flores district, East Nusa Tenggara.

It is the largest living species of lizard, some reaching a length of up to 3 meters and weighing around 70 kilograms.

Although the Komodo dragons normally eat carrion, they will also hunt and ambush their prey including invertebrates, birds, and mammals.
