The first provincial intangible cultural heritage protection center is about to be built in Sichuan Province, information came out at a conference held at the Sichuan Provincial Museum. And it will be opened free to tourists.
Covering a total area of 10 mu (about 666.7 square meters), the protection center will be situated at the International Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo Garden in Qingyang district, Chengdu, capital city of the province. The total investment for the project will reach more than 60 million yuan ($9 million). To better protect intangible cultural heritage, the Sichuan government will build it into a multimedia protection center.
"Modern technologies will be widely applied in the project," the director of the protection center He Zhengjun said. "For example, we will use digital multimedia to provide a virtual environment for visitors to experience the Qiang ethnic culture."
