Situated in Bin County, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province, the Giant Buddha Temple Grotto was built in 628 AD and is one of the largest and most beautiful groups of ancient grottos built in early and flourishing periods of the Tang Dynasty. It is also one of the sites of the world heritage site - Silk Road: the road network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor.
Dug deep into the mountain, the grottoes house a wide variety of stone sculptures. There are more than 130 caves along a 400-meter-long cliff surface, which contain 446 shrines, 1,980 Buddha statues, 2 Dharani pillars, 8 inscriptions, and 178 literary pieces.
