Despite the swelling crowds, nearly 200,000 volunteers are working in Shanghai to ensure the Expo's operates smoothly. Those who've already taken up their posts are doing their best to offer quality service to visitors. Our reporter Liu Ming, takes a walk in the park to learn about their experiences on the job.
Gu Xuejun is a college sophomore. He works eight hours daily as a volunteer at the Expo park. Despite being asked often repetitive questions in sweltering temperatures, he enjoys his work.
World Expo volunteerGu Xuejun said, "I don't feel tired. I am glad that I can help visitors. My partner and I deal with about a thousand daily inquiries from tourists, and even more on peak days. But we enjoy our jobs."
College students have answered the call to help at the event. They account for more than 90 percent of volunteers at the Expo park, and more than a third of volunteers elsewhere in Shanghai.
World Expo volunteer Wei Zhengjie said, "We must wholeheartedly help guests from all over the world."
World Expo volunteer Yin Liang said, "I am very interested in this job, and I am so happy I can help others."
World Expo volunteer Lv Zhe said, "I am honored I can contribute to Shanghai, the World Expo, and our country."
