China's floating population has reached 211 million, according to a forum at the Shanghai Expo Park on World Population Day on Sunday.
Zhang Chunsheng, an official of the national population and family planning commission said that the post-80s generation covered 39 percent of the floating group. Following better education, the group also has stronger rights and greater expectation of the development in big cities.
Zhang also said that areas along the Yangtze River continue to attract most of the floating population at the present time. Emerging metropolitan circles and the metropolis of the Midwest are also becoming new population accumulation areas.
