A photo exhibition of Expo volunteers opened?on September 24?at the exhibition hall of Expo Centre. Secretary General of the Bureau of International Expositions Vincent Loscertales attended the opening ceremony.
Loscertale sincerely thanked volunteers for their contribution to the operation of Expo and wished volunteers could gain more experiences of social work as well as make more friends.
The month-long exhibition has 36 sections and collects nearly 200 pictures of volunteers at service. Pins and videos are also being displayed to give visitors a bigger picture of how volunteers were recruited and trained as well as how they worked at Expo site.
In the 147 days since the opening of Expo, more than 66,000 volunteers have withstood high temperature and heavy rains to welcome thousands of visitors on their duties.
Zhou Kai, one of the volunteers who attended the ceremony, said they were encouraged by the attention from the public when they provided service for the visitors.
Now, the volunteer spirit will be carried on and make more contributions to the modernization Shanghai city, said Ma Chunlei, director of Shanghai World Expo Volunteers Department.
Shanghai has developed more than 5,000 volunteer programmes which will provide a platform for those who want to be volunteers and who want to recruit volunteers, Ma said. The volunteer spirit will continue to shine in Shanghai after the Expo, Ma said.
Also at the ceremony, the trailer of the first movie about the work and daily life of Expo volunteers was shown.
