The Qingdao International Marathon over the Sea took place in Qingdao, Shandong on Nov. 19, with 15,000 athletes from 21 countries and regions in participation.
The novelty of the event was that the Jiaozhou Bay cross-sea bridge, 36.48 kilometers in full length and 25.17 kilometers across sea, comprised 85 percent of the route.
Shandong athletes swept the full marathon events. The 21-year-old Zhang Decheng from Yantai city took the men’s title with a time of two hours, 31 minutes and 6 seconds. Dai Guangchen from Linyi city and Lu Guang from Jinan, capital city of Shandong, finished in second and third places.
Li Shuyun from Tai’an city clocked three hours, two minutes and 49 seconds, winning women’s category. Yantai athlete Lin Liping came in as the runner-up. Li Wenjie from Weifang finished third.
