The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a message of congratulations on the convening of the Plenary Congress of the Taiwan-based Kuomintang Party. At the Congress, Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou was sworn in as the KMT's chairman.
The General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Hu Jintao, also congratulated Lien Chan on his re-appointment as KMT Honorary Chairman and Wu Poh-hsiung, on his new appointment, also as KMT Honorary Chairman.
Hu Jintao spoke highly of Lien and Wu's contributions to the peaceful development of Cross-Strait ties and said he hopes they will continue.
In their replies, Lien and Wu echoed Hu Jintao, saying the two parties need more exchanges and cooperation to promote peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
