This weekend sees the last race of the 2009 Formula 1 championship and a first visit to Abu Dhabi. The Drivers' title is already safely in the hands of Jenson Button, while the Constructors' crown goes to his Brawn team. But for some, the fight will continue to the very last, especially for a Ferrari team who have had a difficult campaign.
Brawn GP's dominance this season has left the established powers scrabbling around, none more so than the mighty Ferrari. The Italian outfit will be hoping to finish this season with some respectability as they enter this weekend's final race. 2009 has been tough, the team being blighted with problems with the car and on the personnel. The main reason has been Ferrari's lateness in adopting the double deck diffuser - a design innovation that massively adds to the downforce on the car.
Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari Team Director, said, "We had a very difficult start due to the very famous 'double diffuser' situation that in a way has given a certain indication for the development on the technical side of the car this year. Then, for sure, we had a car that was not really competitive for the reasons that we discussed for many, many times. The unfortunately we had the situation with Felipe Massa in the middle of the season. So, not positive on that respect. But on the other hand I would say that with all the difficulties, the team reacted always very, very well. It stays together and it is clear that what is the goal for next year, that is important for the group that is working very, very hard already this year for the project of the 2010 car."
