Police have finally, arrested one of the country's most wanted Mafia bosses. This deals a heavy blow to one of the most powerful mafia families in the region around Naples.
Pasquale Russo is considered one of Italy's top 10 Mafia fugitives.
He was convicted in absentia and sentenced to life in prison for 13 homicides and criminal association with the Mafia.
The 62-year-old had been on the run since 1993. He was arrested on Sunday at a remote farmhouse near Sperone, about 80 kilometers north of Naples.
Police said the arrest of the crime boss was part of a wider Mafia crackdown.
Mario Cinque, Provincial Department Chief, said, "In this way, there is no longer the top level of the organization. Until now, it had been prevalent in that area. However, our activities will not stop or be slowed down because the fugitives have been caught."
