The South Korean military and the United States Marine Corps staged large-scale joint landing exercises on Wednesday. The drills took place on separate beaches near Pohang, in southern South Korea.
The show of force is part of a series of exercises aimed at improving military readiness among South Korea's Army, Navy, and Air Force. The drills featured some twenty six hundred South Korean marines, 16 navy vessels, 27 air force planes, 36 Assault Amphibious Vehicles, and six tanks. Around 600 US marines were also involved, along with two naval ships.
During the day's activities, South Korea's forces and the US marines landed and secured target beaches using helicopters and amphibious vehicles. The series of exercises and drills will continue through Saturday.
