This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the National Ballet Troupe of China. The troupe has designated December as its month of celebratory shows. Altogether 16 performances are to be staged this month in Beijing.
The string of celebrations started with the French classical ballet "Sylvia" at the National Center for the Performing Arts. Widely considered to be the hallmark of classical ballet, Sylvia is difficult to interpret in its solos and duets. Performers from the National Ballet Troupe display their technique and chemistry to present the highest level of ballet in China.
The 16 shows include eight programs, sweeping though western classics such as Swan Lake and Onegin, to Chinese originals Peony Pavilion, Red Detachment of Women and Raise the Red Lantern. The performances are scheduled throughout the whole month at the National Center for the Performing Arts and Tianqiao Theatre.
The performances present the latest efforts by the troupe in promoting western ballets and exploring Chinese original productions, and are a real treat for audiences.
