An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale has struck waters off the eastern coast of Taiwan. The China Earthquake Networks Center reported the earthquake on Saturday evening.
The quake struck at a depth of about 30 kilometers. A tsunami warning has not been issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
The quake caused buildings to shake in the capital of Taipei for several seconds. Local TV reported at least four people suffered minor injuries, resulting from falling debris.
The tremor forced Taipei's subways and the island's high speed railroad to be suspended.
