The 2010 expo park will serve as a demonstration for the transportation revolution, boasting more than 1000 zero-emission vehicles. The Expo park also have Green Houses, like this one: the EcoPlaza. Located in the former Nanshi Power Plant, EcoPlaza is a four-story building that covers a construction area of 3,000 square meters. It is one of the expo's four pilot housing projects, advocating saving energy and environmental protection, in which wind is a crucial natural resource.
Another highlight of EcoPlaza is the Sewage Water Utilization System, which would be positively affected in a city abundant in rain like Shanghai.
EcoPlaza desinger Yang Ming said, "EcoPlaza has roof gardens so that we will be able to collect the rain from the roof. On the ground, there is a eco-pool, also collecting rain. After being processed, the water can be reused to water plants, to flush toilets and to wash underground garages and streets. In fact, we can even purify the water into drinkable water. We will demonstrate that fish can live in the toilet."
The Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau is working with the United Nations Environment Programme to develop Green Guidelines for the expo. The guidelines will address planning, operation, construction and post-usage. Climate change is a global hot topic, so experts will promote the concept of "low carbon". They will carefully study the balance of materials and calculate carbon quantity. Then they will try to discover whether carbon quantity will increase or decrease during the duration of the Expo. If it increases, experts will look for ways how to balance the effects.
