A magnitude 7.8 earthquake has rocked the northwestern coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. A tsunami watch was also issued for the region.

The epicenter of Wednesday morning's tremor was located 205 kilometers northwest of the town of Sibolga, with a depth of 46 kilometers. Three aftershocks have also been detected.
