The world famous late Chinese playwright Cao Yu is also known for his work in that revolutionary time period. And after the founding of new China in 1949, he was also the director of Beijing People's Art Theater. And now, on the 100th anniversary of the playwright's birth, the theater is paying tribute to him with a series of celebratory activities.
Actors from the theater have held a painting and calligraphy exhibition for Cao Yu. The late playwright was infatuated with ink art and asked every staff member of the People's Art Theater to study painting and calligraphy.
Actors on hand at the event recalled their own encounters with Cao, saying they each have starred in his plays. Cao Yu's signature works "Thunderstorm", "Wildness", "Beijing Man", and "Sunrise" will be staged at People's Art Theater during the year.
