At the World Expo Park in Shanghai, World Cup souvenirs are flying out the door. The competition's first game only kicked off last week, but the most popular items are already selling out.
At the official World Cup store in Shanghai's World Expo Park, more than 100 kinds of souvenirs are up for grabs. Popular items include World Cup mascot Zakumi and souvenir emblems for each team. Customers are paying between 20 and 600 yuan for their own piece of World Cup memorabilia.
Salesman in World Expo Park, Shanghai, said, "We only stocked 100 emblems for each team and there are only 20 left. The emblems for Brazil, Spain and Germany sold out on the first day of the World Cup."
Customer at World Expo Park, Shanghai, said, "It was too late by the time I found out they had emblems of the participating teams - they had already sold out."
However, football fans have found another way to get what they want - they simply swap their emblems.
"At the beginning, we had complete sets of the emblems. Some people buy what they like and others want to collect the whole series. The only way to get the ones they miss is to swap with other fans, which is part of the appeal." Salesman said.
Despite the shortage of in-demand items, customers can rest assured. The salesman says he has plenty of other souvenirs in stock, from plush toys to World Cup cell-phone chains.
