The FIFA World Cup has held an extravagant closing ceremony ahead of the tournament's final between Spain and the Netherlands. Soccer City in Johannesburg erupted with fireworks, as local singers and musicians performed. Participants danced into the shape of a vuvuzela that spouted lights.
This was followed by Columbian pop diva Shakira singing "Waka Waka...this time for Africa" - the tournament's official anthem - done in collaboration with locally based band Freshlyground...who hail from various parts of the African continent. Performers marched through the field with lights leaving a trail of national flags behind them. Former South African President Nelson Mandela and his wife made a brief appearance at the closing ceremony.
