Now to a report on a mother's maternal instinct, love for her child and will to survive. Yang Lumei was one of the thousands of people affected by the Zhouqu county landslide. She was holding her four-year-old son in her arms when the landslide hit. What's amazing about this survival story is how they both got out alive.
Gao Yuan, who's four-years-old would be dead, if it wasn't for his mother who saved his life.
Yang Lumei was holding her son in her arms when the landslide struck.
Yang Lumei said, "Suddenly I heard the sound of the landslide and a loud crack. Then my house began to shake and glass fell to the floor."
Yang held her son and ran to the door of her house, but realized she was trapped. She then hoped to find safety in a corner of her house. But, the mudslide was so ferocious, it rumbled through her house burying Yang up to her neck.
She lifted her son over her head keeping him out of harm's way. She didn't move and stayed totally still for 8 hours.
Yang Lumei said, "I kept talking to my son, in case he slept or died. Every time when he replied me, I was so relieved."
8 hours after their ordeal began, rescue teams arrived, taking Gao Yuan to safety and digging his mother out alive.
Now, Gao Yuan has just one wish....
Gao Yuan said, "I only want an Ultraman toy."
A mother's maternal instinct and will to survive kept both her and her son alive in the face of a disastrous situation.
