Game designers from the UK's Bright Lights studio will cast a new spell on fans. The new technology skips the middle-man and gives gamers direct interaction without a controller.
The system identifies a player through a camera using motion sensing technology. The gamer's gestures and movements then control the character on screen.
Jonathan Bunney, exe. producer of New Harry Potter game, said, "Having no controller is an extraordinary step forward in gaming. It makes a very different interacting experience. Pressing buttons can be quite daunting for newer players but being able to just walk up to a screen and wave your hands to cast magic is much more accessible experience."
The game will be released in November to coincide with the debut of the final film in the franchise.
The game promises non-stop action with Harry defending himself against a host of menacing enemies and is the first game in the franchise to take place outside of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft.
Harvey Elliott, EA vice president, said, "The biggest challenge is realizing that we don't have those buttons to rely on. In the past we have built games for the Wii and we've put a wand in Harry's hand. With Kinect it's where the magic comes from and if you watch the films they don't just stand there waving a stick. They stand there casting magic. They're conjuring up big spells. So we had to make that feeling the feeling the player gets so they feel they're immersed in a Harry Potter experience."
The Kinect is expected to go on sale in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa this November.
