Soaring food prices has become a common problem facing many Asian countries.

In Tokyo, residents buy vegetables at record-high prices. Some prices have doubled.

One customer said "The vegetables are too expensive. I won't buy much."

One customer said "I can't do without vegetables.I have to buy some."

Japanese customers are not alone. South Koreans are also upset by soaring prices. The price of cabbage, the staple of traditional kimchi,is several times higher than what it cost a year earlier.

To deal with this situation, South Korea has imported 100 tons of the vegetable from China,and has waived the 30 percent import duty on the vegetable.

Korean authorities have also issued subsidies to help bring down cabbage prices.

India is also suffering from food pricing, which has been maintaining doubt-digit growth this year.

According to Reuters, the country's wholesale prices in September registered more than a 15 percent growth from last year, the highest year-on-year growth rate in 11 years.
