With the last tracks laid for the high-speed railway between Beijing and Shanghai, China has not only built up the largest transport network in the world, but also ranks number one in high speed railway length.
By the end of March this year, China had 6,552 kilometers of high speed railway. China holds the complete Intellectual Property Rights to the system. This includes the trains, which are the fastest in the world, and the electricity supply system.
China leads in the high speed railway technologies and has applied for 940 related patents. The US, Russia and Britain are interested in importing the system. China has formed a dozen cooperation groups with Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Myanmar, Poland and India. Several high speed railway projects by Chinese companies in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela have started or been completed.
