Shanghai authorities say they cannot shirk the responsibility for the high-rise building fire that claimed 58 lives. The Municipal government held a second briefing on the aftermath of the tragedy.
A week has past since the deadly blaze.
Thousands came to the charred frame of the apartment building to mourn the 58 people who died in the November 15th fire.
Zhang Renliang, the head of Jing'an district, where the building is located says the families of each victim will be given almost a million yuan in compensation.
Zhang said, "We're in great sorrow for the incident. We take responsibility for this accident. Every victim and those who have been affected will be provided with compensation and help. Their destroyed apartments will be compensated at full price."
