A strong cold front and heavy snowstorms have hit the northeast provinces of Liaoning, Jilin and Helongjiang. As the falls continue and temperatures drop sharply, relevant departments are coping with the situation.
In Liaoning Province, emergency heating systems have been turned on to provide warmth for local residents. As temperatures drop sharply, factories are raising their parameters, and starting back-up boilers. This guarantees much better conditions indoors.
Heavy snow and high winds have also caused traffic chaos across Jilin Province. In Changchun, 59 clean-up machines and other pieces of equipment have been brought in to fight the heavy snow.
The environmental sanitation department has increased its clean-up capability from the original 260 streets at once, to 500 at a time. Most of the snow has been cleared off the major roads in Changchun, and traffic flow remains smooth.
Temperatures in parts of Heilongjiang dropped to minus 29 degrees Celsius as the snow fell, a record low this season. The weather became clearer on Sunday, and people began to go out more frequently.
Meteorological experts are reminding local residents that temperatures will drop between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius in the next few days.
Meanwhile, in East China's Shandong and Jiangsu provinces, drought conditions continue to linger. Meteorological departments there are preparing to generate artificial rain to alleviate the situation.
