China continues to urge all relevant parties to remain calm and restraint in order to avoid any further confrontation on the Korean peninsula. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu told a press briefing that dialogue and cooperation are the only correct approaches to resolving the crisis.
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Jiang Yu reiterated that China has consistently called on relevant parties to resolve issues through dialogue. She said people from all countries in the region and the international community strongly aspire for peace rather than warfare.
South Korea began large-scale drills on Thursday involving fighter jets and artillery guns near a heavily fortified land border with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The DPRK did not respond military to what it called "reckless" provocation. Thursday, marks the one month anniversary when the two sides exchanged artillery fire on Yeonpyeong island.
